June 27 - July 1

Lakeside Lighting,

"Turning Dreams Into Reality"

It has been a little over a week since the 2015-16 school year concluded. In that short amount of time, we have been hard at work to prepare the building for the 2016-17 school year.

The first order of business was to identify a theme for the new school year. This theme came as a result of the feedback from staff, students, parents and community. Everyone has dreams and ideas for the school. This year we are going to make those dreams come true. It will be an awesome opportunity for everyone to contribute. What will you do to turn dreams into reality?

Stay tuned because we have a lot more planned for this summer. In the meantime please send Summer Vacation pictures to Dr. Cook (spike.cook@millvillenj.gov) or use the #lmslighting so we can highlight the places we visit this summer.

In case you missed it ... Our videos are going viral

Lakeside Lightning

Lakeside is an opportunity, not an obligation!

A successful Step Up
What a great finish to an amazing school year. Our kids and staff worked all the way up to the final dismissal bell for the school year. Be sure to keep checking back on the Lighting Round Blog over the summer because it will be published weekly.

On Monday our PBSIS team hosted the End of the Year Extravaganza. Students had to have 20 Zaps in order to attend. During the Extravaganza, students were treated to pretzels and water while they played on bouncy houses. One of the highlights this year was the Dunk Tank. Each administrator and willing teachers spent time in the tank while kids tried their best to hit the target. A few administrators also participated in the "pie in your face" station. All in all a fun time was had by all!

On Tuesday we officially acknowledged the 8th grade class with the annual Step Up. This year we switched the event to the evening. The staff worked collaboratively to make sure the evening was special. A big thank you to everyone who helped out and attended. In case you missed it, Mr. Perry was able to produce this awesome video.

Wednesday we had our annual Awards Ceremonies in each grade level. Students were acknowledged for all of their hard work in athletics, academics, and their overall awesomeness. At the end of the ceremonies, the students watched the Lakeside Running Man. The kids laughed and some may have been pleasantly surprised with the staff's dance moves. A big thank you to Mrs. Ciccio and her daughter Devon for producing the video (and teaching us the dance)! In case you missed it, check out the video here:

Students will receive their tickets on Tuesday after their practice.

We wish Mr. Virtue well on his retirement

Lakeside Lightning,

Lakeside is an opportunity, not an obligation!

Read to Succeed
In a little over 3 months the Lightning Round has been viewed over 5,000 times in 10 different countries. The news of our school is beginning to spread because of the dedicated staff, students, parents, and community. Congratulations for passing the 5,000 mark!

This is our last full week of school for the 2016-17 school year. There is still so much to accomplish as the students have field trips, finals, and other end of the year activities. This time of year is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the year and plan for next year.

In the Picture of the Week, thirty-four 6th grade students gathered in the Library/Media Center to celebrate and receive their Certificate of Achievement and a ticket to Six Flags Great Adventure for their hard work. Congratulations!

Students, don't be surprised if your teachers ask you what YOU want to see for next year. What areas do YOU want us to focus on for the 2016-17 school year?

Last week the 6th graders had the opportunity to go on their field trip to the Funplex. According to staff, the students did a great job and had a lot of fun at the Funplex. These rewards are set in place because we believe in "working hard and playing hard!"

AVID Awards
On Thursday, the AVID site team hosted their annual Awards Celebration. The site team took the theme to the next level. Each member wore Lifeguard shirts and decorated the cafeteria to resemble the beach. Dr. Gentile came out to support the staff and students. The cafeteria staff prepared an awesome meal for all of us to enjoy! The most important part of the evening was hearing the speeches from the students about what AVID means to them. AVID is truly making a difference in the lives of our students!

On Tuesday, the 8th graders hit the ground running as they had their annual field trip. This year, the staff and students went to the iPlay America for a day of fun, friendly competition, and relaxing. The staff said that the students did a great job and they even won the Lazer Tag game!

This week we welcome the incoming 5th graders on Monday and Tuesday! Each morning, the 5th graders will be in the Performing Arts Center to hear from our staff and then they will be touring around the school with our leaders.

8th grade teachers having fun too!
The 7th graders have their field trip on Wednesday. They will be visiting the Funplex complex in Mount Laurel. Mr. Jimenez and the teachers will have a brief meeting with the students on Tuesday during 6th period to review the expectations.

The 8th graders will begin their preparation for Step Up on Friday during their AVID Strategies class. Students will learn how we re-designed Step Up to ensure that more parents will be able to attend. In addition, our goal is to complete the program within an hour in order for everyone to celebrate on their own.

Also on Friday the Band and Chorus will be traveling to Hersey Park for a competition and some fun! The students will depart from Lakeside at 6:00 AM and will be returning late Friday night.
