May 25 - 29, 2020

New Remote Learning Assignments have been posted
Lakeside Lightning,

We hope you enjoyed the Memorial Day Weekend. It probably was a little different than in years past. If you were not able to go the beach or have a barbecue it is only temporary and hopefully things will be better in the future!

This is the last week of May. Our school year will be over before you know it. We wanted to share our end of the year plan with everyone so that you can make the necessary adjustments in your schedule.

The 8th Grade Step Up will remain a virtual ceremony held on June 15, 2020 at 6:00 PM through Quinn Broadcasting. We appreciate your cooperation with this as we want to honor those going into high school while remaining safe

Remote Learning Updates

  • June 5th is last day of new Remote Instruction. June 8 - 16 will be make up work, and remote end of the year activities.
  • Week of June 22 will be collection of Chromebooks and distribution of locker materials, certificates and shirts for 8th graders. We will send out exact dates and times (and procedures) for pickup/drop off.

Thank you for your support - 8th graders will receive T-Shirts for Free!
We had over 70 people give donations that totaled over 2,300 dollars. Because of everyone's generous donations, each 8th grader will receive a shirt at no cost. Thank you again for your generosity!

Week 9 Assignments are available
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We hope you have enjoyed the beautiful spring weather. We are seeing areas of our state open up and there is a lot of promise with the future! Be sure to continue to follow the guidelines set forth and be safe.

Our staff did an amazing job with locker and classroom clean out this week. We made a schedule that emphasized social distancing and safety. In just under 2 and 1/2 days, we cleaned out all 1100 lockers and organized them by homeroom as we prepare for distribution. As of now we do not have a date on the distribution of the materials (and Chromebook returns). It will most likely be sometime the week of June 8-12. Our teachers will be putting on the finishing touches to their rooms this week in preparation for the summer cleaning. All of the staff who have visited have expressed how much this was not how they wanted to end things. They miss the kids and hope we return to a regular schedule in the fall!

Step Up - June 15th at 6:00 PM - Tune into Quinn Broadcasting
To celebrate our 8th-grade students we will broadcast a pre-recorded Step-Up Ceremony Monday, June 15, 2020, at 6:00 PM through Quinn Broadcasting. There will be a live "pre" show in studio with Dr. Cook and Mrs. Gaunt with special awards and shout outs to our parents, students and staff. A request for video messages to help fill the void of physical congratulations and transitions will be shared with staff and students. Thank you for supporting the LMS 8th-grade Class of 2020.

Nurses Corner
Spring has finally arrived and some parks and outdoor activities are now starting to open. Fresh air and sunshine are vital to promote a healthy lifestyle. Did you know that we get 90% of our vitamin D from exposure to sunlight? Vitamin D helps us absorb calcium and is an essential vitamin. Check out this link to CDC’s guidelines for visiting parks and outdoor recreation and get out there and get some fresh air and have some fun.

Along with the warm weather comes tick season.  Here is a link to CDC’s guidelines for tick prevention.

May 11 - 15, 2020

Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We want to start out by thanking everyone for their support of our entire LMS Staff for Staff Appreciation Week. It was so nice to get all of the well wishes, videos and pictures! Over the past few years our PTO have been so supportive of the Staff through various activities and the Staff Appreciation Week was a big part of that!

Since we could not meet in person, we made a video for our staff. The video has messages from students, parents, and administration. There are even some pictures from throughout the year for everyone to reminisce.

Please take a few minutes to enjoy the 2020 Staff Appreciation Week Video:

End of the Year Activities
Our staff and administration met to discuss our end of the year activities. We will be doing things a bit differently considering the limits placed on us in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once our dates and times are finalized we will be sending out information to parents and students. Here is what we have so far:

  • 5th into 6th grade presentations will be recorded and sent to elementary schools. We will be creating a "Welcome to Lakeside" video with an extensive tour of the building and staff messages. New Student Orientation, usually scheduled for the end of August, is put on hold for now.
  • Chromebooks, yearbooks, certificates, locker belongings, refunds, 8th grade T-Shirts etc pick ups will be scheduled for sometime during the 2nd or 3rd week of June.
  • 8th Grade Step Up, due to the New Jersey Guidelines set forth in Administrative Order 2020-4 and Executive Order 107, will be done virtually with a date set very soon. We will be doing our best to continue the meaning of the ceremony while honoring all of our 8th graders!
Mrs. Salvati - Pizza Giveaway

Mrs. Salvati is doing a pizza give away every Friday for her students who do not have more than 2 missing assignments (and are signed up for my Remind). Friday's winner was Arielis Martinez. Manny’s delivered pizza and cheese fries to her and her family.

Nurses Corner
By now everyone is practicing social distancing to keep themselves and others healthy. Social distancing can lead to depression and feelings of isolation, especially if you can’t spend time with your family members or friends. If you have feelings of sadness, depression or isolation you’re not alone and it can even be a natural and normal feeling. Below is a list of things that we can all do to keep mentally and socially healthy.
  • Eating 3 well balanced meals a day, getting at least 8-10 hours of sleep each night, getting plenty of fresh air and exercise, and staying hydrated are all important for overall health.
  • Connect with friends and family members via phone, FaceTime or arrange a Zoom meeting with classmates, or grandparents
  • The YMCA has a variety of resources for FREE online including Tai Chi, Barre, Youth Sports Performance and Weightlifting!
