November 1 - 5, 2021

Congratulations to Small Town Stix for winning the championship

Lakeside Lightning,

Grow through what you go through

There has been a remarkable transformation in our school climate and culture. Since implementing a new policy to curb school violence (any physical altercation will be referred to Police Charges and possible change in placement) we have seen a drastic decline in physical altercations. In fact, we didn't have any incidents this past week (5 days in a row).

When asked about this, Dr. Cook, the Lakeside Principal said, "We have been in a pandemic trying to educate children who for past two years have had a very little time in school. In my conversations with Principals across the nation, everyone has been having their most challenging school year. Once we can establish safety, then we will be able to create the learning environment we seek. We have so many good kids and excellent teachers and they were all fed up with the way that a small group of students were choosing to resolve their issues."

In addition, we had a very successful Spirt Week. There will be plenty of pictures in this week's Lighting Round under the Pictures from Around the School Section.

This week we are only in school on Monday and Tuesday. We are off on Wednesday for Veterans Day and Thursday and Friday for the NJEA Conference.

Millville High School Wins Tournament of the Bands

Lakeside Lightning Round 10/25 - 10/29, 2021

Lakeside Lightning,

Grow through what you go through

As we have said many times this year, we are having a challenging year. Recently, our Assistant Superintendent, in partnership with the Millville Police Department, made it known that all future physical violence will be met with Police charges and possible placement in the alternative school. Violence is never the way to settle disputes at Lakeside.

Dr. Cook will be attending a community roundtable with Coach JT Burks on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 6:30 PM. The meeting will take place at 10 East Broad Street (rear entrance). Dr. Cook is also partnering with Coach JT Burks and Kaun Bowleg to begin a program to assist with hallways, cafeteria and a positive conversations.

We will get through this... Together!

Lakeside Lightning Round 10/18 - 22, 2021

Lakeside Lightning,

Grow through what you go through

Slowly but surely we are getting back to the normalcy of school. As we have stated earlier, not only have Lakeside students struggled with transitioning back to school, but all other schools are too. Each week we continually see improvements and we know that this transition has been difficult because the last two years have been challenging.

This week, we are hosting our first Parent/Guardian School Improvement Plan meeting on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 6:00 PM in person at the Lakeside DMC (please enter front entrance). The purpose of this meeting is to review our school goals and discuss areas of concerns in the school.

We are looking forward to hosting another Free Produce Distribution on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

NJHS

NJHS represents Lakeside at the Walk to End Alzheimer's

The Lakeside NJHS raised $1195.  Special shout out goes to Gabe Hinckley who raised an incredible $750!

Pause, Notice and Choose

The Whole Health Institute has provided LMS with Pause, Notice, Choose reminder cards for staff and students. These small cards fit easily in a pocket or wallet and are a great reminder to take time to Pause: Take a deep breath, Notice: What do you think, feel, and sense right now?, and Choose: What will you do next.

In a time when we are all very overwhelmed, these are three simple words that describe a process that can truly change the way we approach moments in our daily lives. Please consider practicing Pause, Notice, Choose. Using this common language in our school could also be beneficial for consistency and common expectations across classrooms and content areas.

Former Lakeside AVID Visits Virtually

Former Lakeside AVID student, DaeTrell Lindsey, was a virtual guest speaker for the 8th grade AVID class. DaeTrell is a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army Reserves and union underwater welder.
