AVID Students at the Balance Center
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We had assemblies during all Advisory periods on Thursday to kick-off the JDRF fundraisers.  During the assembly, students learned about Type 1 diabetes and why it is so important that we help fund research for treatment and a cure.  Additionally, students learned about how they can earn a pass to attend the walk on morning of April 18th as well as how they can earn a free ticket to the AVID/PBSIS sponsored event on the afternoon of April 18. Lakeside Middle School has raised close to $50,000 since we began participating

On Friday, our 6th grade AVID students had a wellness day in Millville. The AVID students visited the Holly City Family Center for a tour, cardio, and an exciting Zumba class. They walked to plaza for lunch. In the afternoon they visited the Balance Center to learn about Mindfullness and took a yoga class with Kasey Young! Namaste!

Lightning Bots at the Tech Showcase
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We had a very successful week at Lakeside. On Wednesday we hosted over 45 educators from Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. The feedback that we received from the AVID Showcase was very positive. The educators observed classrooms with high level of activities. They were impressed with our hallways and how respectful are students were. During the visit, we highlighted 10 AVID students who talked about their experiences at LMS, their binders, and the academic rigor at our school. Dr. Cook, in talking with the visitors said, "We have a lot of amazing things going on at this school. It is important for us to take the time to recognize this and to be grateful for the positive contributions of our teachers and students."

In addition, we had LMS students who attended and presented at the Technology Showcase held at Silver Run. Plus, we had students share their special Jazz talents at Shalick High School. Our 6th grade students did an amazing job at the 6th Grade Dance! Great job everyone for displaying their hard work and efforts!!!

NJHS Officers with Dr. Cook
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

Happy St. Patrick's Day. We hope that the luck of the Irish is with everyone as we close in on Spring! We had another awesome week at Lakeside. On Tuesday we inducted our new group of National Honor Society Members in a ceremony coordinated by Mrs. Gaudio! The National Junior Honor Society members demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. We are so grateful for everything they do for our school and community!

Thursday our Math teachers celebrated Pi Day. Each March 14 (3.14) our math teachers integrate activities to show the students the complexities and fun that comes along with the concept of Pi. Thank you to Mr. Fien for sharing activities for the entire staff to implement in the classroom.

On Friday March 15, thirty-four 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls had the opportunity to participate in a day exploring careers in STEM at Cumberland County College’s Tween Tech event. They learned about such topics as chemical reactions, coding robots, and crime scene investigation. It was a great experience and the ladies represented Lakeside well.

This Wednesday we will hosting educators from throughout the area for an AVID Showcase. Visiting educators will tour our classrooms, meet with teachers and students in order to bring ideas back to their schools. Hosting a Showcase is a big deal and the folks at AVID have the confidence in Lakeside to be the model to which other school's aspire.
