Wrap up from 2017-18 School Year

Mrs. Sharpless's class earns 300
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We hope that everyone has been enjoying your summer. It is hard to believe that the school year ended just a few weeks ago. We have been busy at LMS wrapping up the 2017-18 school year and preparing for the 2018-19 school year. In addition, we have been planning for our first Summer School in a long time at LMS. Students who failed two classes or missed over 25 days will be engaged in a Summer School focused on academics, service learning, and motivation. The program starts on July 9 and goes until August 9.

In many ways we had another successful school year at Lakeside. We improved in a number of areas including Math and Language Arts assessments, recurring discipline referrals and subject area benchmarks. We offered more clubs and activities for the students to become engaged with. We offered new electives and more advanced classes! Lastly, we offered a new "Advisory" period which allowed students to work on character education as well as AVID strategies to improve their learning. We accomplished this together with help from the community, parents, staff and students!

We are looking forward to 2018-19 school year. As you can imagine, we are planning to continue to improve the school in all areas. Stay tuned for future LMS Lightning Round posts where will share all of the planned improvements!

Mrs. Sharpless's Class bits the 300 Club
"On Wednesday we had a Chic-fil-a party to celebrate my students who made it into our 300 club.  These students answered 300 questions or more in one school week in addition to the work they did in math class and on their homework. That means they answered an additional 43 math questions per day!  As you can tell, this is a great accomplishment for these 7 students beings they are one of only 8% of all of my students who were able to complete this feat." by Mrs. Sharpless

Mrs. Schwailik and Mrs. Birnstiel's achieved another milestone!
"Another goal met and surpassed!!!  The "200 Book Challenge"!!! Mrs. Schwailik and Mrs. Birnstiel's 6th grade Inclusion Language Arts class is celebrating our "200 Book Challenge". As a class we have read 260 books and passed the corresponding AR tests." by Mrs. Schwailik
