LMS staff and families donated $800 to CFC Food Pantry
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

This week the Lakeside Staff and Families got together with the Child Family Center to raise money for the Food Pantry. The outpouring of support was amazing. In 48 hours we raised $800 towards the pantry.

We had Mrs. Clarke, Mrs. Hallenbeck, Mrs. Zerra and Dr. Cook go to their local grocery stores to get as many things as they could. We will be working with CFC on Monday to help assemble and then on Tuesday to distribute the donations to those in need in Millville.

We will be helping them at their next one in April as well. Stay tuned for more information.

National Junior Honor Society Conducts First "Virtual Induction Ceremony"
Dr. Cook and Mrs. Gaudio took a chance on Tuesday with the first Virtual Induction Ceremony through Zoom. There were 27 students in grade 7 and 8 who were inducted along with the NJHS Officers playing their roles and even lighting candles. Parents and families were able to tune into Zoom and watch as their child was inducted. Once we get back to school, Dr. Cook and Mrs. Gauduo
will be scheduling an in-person ceremony.

Home Learning Plan - Week 3
The new online portion of the Home Learning Plan has been updated with new material. Be sure the check the tinyurl's for your grade level. Those students who do not have access to the internet can pick up packets on Monday's and Wednesday's from 9 AM - 12 PM at Lakeside. Please note that these packets are for weeks 2-4 so you do not need to pick up work each week.

Links for the Home Learning Plan

Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We want to start out by thanking the students and families for their patience with the Home Learning Plan for Lakeside Middle School. We are in unprecedented times and we are building this plan while we are flying with it.

Our staff have been amazing with this transition. We are so grateful for how flexible and cooperative they have been. Many are trying new technology and ways to connect with students. They are to be commended!!!

We also want to thank our Cafeteria and Maintenance Staff. The Cafeteria Staff has given out over 500 meals in 4 days to Millville Public School families. They have even assisted in handing out the Home Learning Packets. Our Maintenance Staff has begun disinfecting the entire building. As they finish a section, they are not allowing anyone in the area. When the students and staff come back to LMS we will have a very clean and disinfected school!

National Junior Honor Society Induction March 24, 2020 (6:00 PM)

We are going to try using virtual tools for the students to be recognized. When we return we will do the full ceremony. Be on the lookout for more information.

Remote Learning Highlights (3/18/2020)

Mrs. Garay's son Remote Learning
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Remote Learning at LMS!

Today we wanted to highlight some of the noteworthy accomplishments of the Staff and Students through our Home Learning Plan.

Zoom at Noon
Every Tuesday & Thursday Lakeside Choir is meeting on Zoom for choir hangouts and discussions. Yesterday we had 11 students.

Virtual Art Club Meeting
Ms. Bellucci hosted a virtual art club meeting yesterday with the Art Club at Lakeside.

Ms. Carroll’s Happy Birthday
Ms. Carroll kept the birthday acknowledgement going by using Zoom to sing to Soraya Perez.

Quizzizz game set up by Mrs. Zerra
Mrs. Zerra reached out to her students and helped them navigate the math work. They were receptive and in good spirits! She plans on posting a Quizzizz game today for fun.

Mr. Malaga delivers Breakfast for those in need
Mr. Malaga is volunteering himself to personally deliver breakfast and lunch to a student from our classroom (and younger sister from elementary) whose family does not have transportation.

Student Outreach
Mrs. Dejesus is visiting with students to deliver food and provide assistance. For those who are Spanish speaking she is translating and explaining our Home Learning Plan.

Comfy Setting for Home Learning
Be like Mrs. Garay's son Jamie and find a comfy place to curl up with a good book
Also!! There is a Newsela app that student's can download on their phones that is free and as long as they log in with their school email and password their teachers have access! This will hopefully help students who are doing all their work through a phone.

Hand Delivering Packets
Mrs. Bram hand delivered a student packet for someone who was unable to make it to Lakeside.

Home Learning Update (3/17/2020)

LMS students learning how to cook healthy meals in February
Dear Lakeside Families,

We are reaching out to you to review some important information as we begin our home learning process.

We would like to thank you for your patience as we continue to develop and refine our new process for remote learning. We are working hard to be transparent and ensure you receive all of the necessary information.

We have developed links for easy access to our information.  Please visit Facebook, Lightning Round Blog, to find these links. An email will be sent out through our system for those of you who subscribed.

Our teachers will be available through email, Monday-Friday from 8am-3pm.  A list of all teachers' email addresses was sent home with your child yesterday.  If your child was absent yesterday, packets are available in our Main Office or you can view online.

Due to the limited time we had to develop your child’s work, it is possible that you could have found some inconsistencies.  In this case, please use the following links:

It is preferred that you access the work online.  If you are unable to view the work online, you may visit LMS Monday-Friday from 9 AM-12 PM.  If you cannot make it during this time, please call the front office to schedule an appointment. Those without internet access can pick up weeks 2-4 starting Monday, March 23.

It is important during the Home Learning time that students check their email!

Dr. Cook's Message for Remote Learning (March 16)

Lakeside Students and Families,

Check out Dr. Cook's Video Message to Students and Families

I am sure by now you received the call from our Superintendent Dr. Schneider regarding school Closing. We will be practicing Social Distancing and Remote Learning from March 17 through April 19. We will return to school on April 20.

It is extremely important that your child attend school on March 16 because we have a lot of important information to deliver to them. I can assure you that we are taking extreme measures to keep your children healthy while at Lakeside.

Your child will receive a packet of work that will get them started on our Home Learning Plan. This work is important and we are anticipating that they can finish it by Friday. Your child's teachers will also be providing them with login information to any online sites and programs they are currently using in the classroom.

Starting next week and for the remainder of the time we are off, we will transition to an Online Platform. Each grade will have a link with assignments and more importantly a weekly reflection.

On Monday, your child’s homeroom teacher will show them a video of how to access and use the interactive Learn from Home document. A link to this video will also be added to our Facebook page for parents and guardians to view. Throughout our Home Learning Plan, Teachers will be available from 8 AM - 3 PM Monday through Friday by email or any other communication platform you are currently using with your child’s teacher.

I want to thank our Lakeside Staff. During the planning for this situation they have been amazing and have worked collaboratively throughout the week (and weekend) to ensure your child is cared for. I am very grateful to work with such amazing educators.
