Lakeside Lightning Round - September 27 - October 1, 2021

Coach JT Burks visited LMS lunches this week

Lakeside Lightning,

Grow through what you go through

Let's start with the positives - Mrs. Eppright
My house/office has become quiet the bolt factory, I’ve received about 215 “you’ve been struck” submissions. I’d argue that over half of the submissions have been students recognizing staff.  It’s powerful to see the things students notice and are saying about staff.  They truly are always observing us and highlights that we do have the power to change our student's narrative about school, learning, themselves, and the environment they learn in. Despite the challenges thus far, reading these gives me hope that we will overcome these challenging times as long as we keep showing up as educators and supporters. I added some below that I thought were great!

Here is what students are saying about our staff
  • I saw that the other day that you had helped the new student that is in your math class period 3/4 and helped her get all of the materials and making sure that she knew who was in her classes. I know that it is part of your job but it was very nice of you.
  • Your leadership and helpfulness in Science Class has not gone unseen and the way you help students reach success needs more recognition. Your efforts are what teachers are supposed to do at Lakeside Middle School. Continue the great teaching!
  • You are always in a good mood and always help when people need help. You are very kind to students and other teachers.
  • I noticed how you were being a great teacher and being very to kind to the first period class , though most of us don't listen , I do! so thank you for being kind
  • You have changed me since I was in 5th last year please continue what you helped me with!!
  • I really appreciate the fact that I am in your class! you've given me so much more confidence and self-love.
  • Thank you, Ms., gaunt for giving me a second chance
Start Strong - NJDOE Assessment
Start Strong testing will take place October 5th-7th.  All students will test on October 5th and 6th and only 6th graders will test on October 7th.  The purpose of this test is to give us baseline data for our students. An official letter giving more information will be sent out later this week.

Lakeside Lightning Round 9/20 - 24, 2021

NJHS Officers 2021-22

Lakeside Lighting,

Grow through what you go through

Parents and Guardians - We need your help. Your children are being inundated with messages on Social Media to destroy bathrooms, be disrespectful to staff and undermine everything we are trying to do to create a positive learning environment. If you would like more information on this, please click this link

We know that you do not want your kids engaging in this behavior and neither do we. As we know, adolescents are easily influenced by their peers and Social Media. We, as the school and families, need to work together. Things will change and we need your support.

The administrative team will be visiting the 7th and 8th grade classrooms on Monday to discuss behavioral expectations and how things need to change in order for us to have a successful learning environment. As always, we know that its not everyone and really only a select group of kids, but all of the students need to hear from the administration on the importance of change.

Parents or guardians, if you have a solution or want to help, Dr. Cook is all ears! He will be available at 5:30 PM prior to Back to School Night during the Title One presentation. In addition, you can always call 856-293-2450 or email him at spike.cook@millville,org.

Arrival and Dismissal

Dr. Cook has assembled a comprehensive team comprised of parents, staff, administration and the Millville Police Department to re-haul the entire Arrival and Dismissal procedures. We are still working out the details and will be presenting a plan and a video to help everyone understand the new process. We know that things have to change and we are willing to take chances to make it work. Stay tuned for more details.

Reminders

  • Back to School Night 2021 is on Tuesday September 21 at 6:00 PM

When she’s not chasing her crazy toddlers around, she loves taking her mini schnauzer, Olive,  for long walks around the neighborhood and binge-watching a new show. Her recent favorite- The 100!

Mr. Taylor, Health and Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Taylor is a new Health and PE teacher here at Lakeside. An alumnus of Millville and Rowan University, Mr. Taylor is ready to return to Lakeside in the role of an educator.

He is very excited to help students live healthy, active lives in school and at home!

Lakeside Lightning Round - 9/13 - 17, 2021

Community members and Millville PD at arrival

Lakeside Lightning,

Grow through what you go through

We had a great opening week. This was the first opening in two years where we had all the students in person. We picked up where we left off and had all students and teachers participate in the First Two Days activities. Throughout the first two days, we worked on conflict resolution, anti bullying, lockers, cafeteria and completed all four safety drills. Our Vice Principals and School Counselors hosted their first "rally" of the year and reviewed our point system, HIB, Retention Policy and rewarded teachers and students for their hard work.

The opening week was not without challenges. Our arrival and dismissal have required us to re-evaluate our procedures. We have had a significant increase in the amount of car riders which has caused traffic delays and frustration. We need everyone to be patient. Our school was not designed for the several hundred cars that are descending on our school in the morning and afternoon. In addition, we have seen that our buses have less students riding. We are hopeful that this situation will begin to resolve itself, but if it continues we may need to make a major overhaul of the procedures. Again, we are asking for patience.

Back to School Night 2021

Be sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM for our first in person Back to School night in two years. More information will be forthcoming.

Lakeside Lightning Round - 9/6 - 9/10, 2021

LMS Staff preparing for the 21-22 year

 Lakeside Lightning,

Grow through what you go through!

We are very excited to start the 2021-22 School Year this week. Last week, our staff was preparing the school for the students' return. This will be the first opening in two years with everyone at the school in person!

At the end of August we had our New Student Orientation. We had an incredible turn out of incoming 6th graders as well as students who were on Remote last year. Students and parents got the opportunity to tour the school, try out their lockers and hear from the administration.

This year we are starting out with the "First Two Days." During the First Two Days, all Lakeside Teachers will take the students through the same presentation to ensure that all the students receive the same information about our school. The overarching goal of the First Two Days is help all students acclimate to the school and clearly understand our expectations as well as procedures.

If you missed the last Lakeside Lightning Round and you are looking for information on the school opening, please check out this link

Again, we are so excited for the start of the new school year and can not wait to see the students. Parents. be sure to mark your calendars for the Back to School Night 2021 which is from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September, 21.

Do you have a minute with Dr. Cook?

Custodian Appreciation Luncheon
Each year, the 12 month staff and administration take time to recognize the Custodians for their hard work over the summer. This year, we had an amazing feast and laughed a lot at our luncheon. The custodians got thank you cards and some time to relax. Unfortunaltey, we only took one picture
