Parents As Leaders - What a GREAT Night
On Wednesday, LMS hosted Parents As Leaders from Bacon, Silver Run and of course LMS!
Brett Clendaniel, Jr, had this to say for those in attendance, "I just wanted to thank each of you again for taking the time to be apart of an extremely successful event at Lakeside Middle School. According to the sign-in sheets, there were 342 total people who attended the event which was comprised of 139 families. This was a resounding success for our program and will be an incredible boost for the Parents As Leaders Cooperative in each of our schools as we move forward. The collaborative approach that our team took towards this event is what made this event what it was."
If you are interested in joining the LMS Parents as Leaders Group please contact our liaison, Ms. Moratelli.

The successful team will be awarded a cash incentive to complete their project.
AVID Students Taking the Lead in Science
The group from CU Maurice River is coming on Tuesday to present information about the community serenity and wildlife garden that our 6th grade AVID students will be helping to design and plant. All 6th grade AVID students will be encouraged to 8th and 9th period on Tuesday for the project. If a student cannot miss their 8th period class due to poor academic performance they should not attend the presentation.
LMS to host Pleasantville for an AVID Site Visit
Since we are a National Demonstration Site, LMS will be hosting Pleasantville School District on Wednesday, March 1. Our visitors will be touring the building, meeting with teachers and students
Mrs. Schwailik's Students are Halfway to 100!
Last year Mrs. Schwailik's students took an almost insurmountable task of reading 100 books during the school year. Sure enough they pulled it off. Not to be outdone, her class this year wants to read more. Mrs. Schwailik said that her students this year reached the halfway mark (50) earlier than last year's group. It is possible that will read MORE than 100! Stay tuned for more details!
7th Graders Learn About Overcoming Obstacles from Master Brian Moragne
Master Moragne teaching Caporeira to 7th graders |
At the assembly, Master Moragne share his story of growing up poor in Atlantic City. He often skipped meals because his family simply could not afford it. Faced with dealing drugs, dropping out of school or choosing a different path, Master Moragne chose to become a positive member of society. He talked with the students about never giving up. The kids loved the assembly because they were able to learn some Caporeira as well as see one of their teachers, Mrs. Cuesta, show off her skills.
