Lakeside Lightning,

NJHS at the Alzheimer's Walk
The World is Yours: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities

"It is a great day to be a Bolt" is a statement you hear throughout our district. At Lakeside we have always been the Lightning and will always be the Lightning. As we increase our support for the High School and to further bring the district together, we have experimented with a new saying. "It's a great day to be a Jr. Bolt" is starting to spread throughout the school. In fact, some of the choices for the new gear for this year could have the Jr. Bolt included. Be on the lookout for new logos and LMS gear for the year!

The administration is in full swing with walkthroughs and observations. Each of us are seeing high academic engagement in the classrooms. Mr. Hudson, had this to say about the 8th grade learning environment, "This past week alone, I saw students completing choice boards, cooperative groups, rich classroom discussions, students modeling problems on the SmartBoard, Venn  Diagrams to compare and contrast, and teachers using multiple teaching strategies and activities to keep students engaged." Way to go 8th grade! Keep up the hard work!

Mr. Protic teaching Algebra
Now that we are past the 1/2 way point of our first marking period, Guidance Counselors are going through the progress reports to identify and meet with students who are in danger. Remember, our Retention Policy has been extended to all classes and students can not fail two or more classes. In addition to the meetings with the Guidance Counselors, we have after school homework help, and additional assistance in the Advisory period if needed.

We hope everyone has a great week, and remember, "It's a great day to be a Jr. Bolt"!

Calling all cheerleaders. Do you want to join the Lakeside cheer club? Come see Mrs. Stroup in G210 for more information and to pick up your physical forms. The first meeting will be on October 24th.

Only one week left to have a chance at winning $100 or participating in our Dash for Cash! Our yearly Otis Spunkmeyer and Cherrydale fundraiser runs until October 20th. Our top seller is going to win $100! Someone else is going to win a crisp $50 bill! There are a lot of prizes up for grabs and fundraising helps us have fun activities throughout the year!

Do you want to help the victims of the hurricanes, but don't know how?  Do you have a quarter?  All it takes is one quarter, just 25 cents, to buy a red, white and blue bracelet to support the hurricane relief.  Stop by Mrs. Sooy's room, M133, to buy a bracelet or look for students selling them during lunches during the month of October.  That quarter will go a long way in helping those trying to rebuild their lives after the hurricane.

Thank you and our joke of the week is Why do ghosts like to ride in elevators? It raises their spirits. Have a frightening week!
