October 1 - 5, 2018

Lightning Round goes over 100,000 visitors!
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

Congratulations to the Lakeside Lightning Round for passing the 100,000 visitor mark in less than 2 and half years! Thank you for your ongoing support!!!!

Can you believe that we are already through the first month of school for the 2018-19 school year? Time really is flying as we go throughout the learning process at Lakeside Middle School. Many students have completed their introductory assessments in their core classes so that teachers can understand their academic levels. These assessments are used in our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that the teachers engage a few times a week. In fact, the teachers will be getting additional training this week (while the students are off) on Wednesday, October 5, 2018.

Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who attended the Back to School Night. We tried to approach the BTSN differently this year in order to allow parents to attend multiple grade levels and classes that are offered A/B days. We would really appreciate your feedback so that is why developed a Google Form to hear what you thought. Please take a few minutes to share your opinions on the Back to School Night 2018. Daily Announcements
Do you want to "Fall Into a Good Book?"  If you enjoy reading, sharing what you read with others, comparing the book version to the movie version, or simply want to challenge yourself to read more advanced material, join Mrs. Birnstiel's Book Club after school on Tuesday's, starting October 2nd from 3:15 to 4:15.  We will go on adventures, analyze characters and their choices, explore other genres, and share our experiences, all while building reading mileage and raising our reading scores.  Pick up a permission slip outside of Y105 and return it by this Friday.  Light refreshments will be served.  Hope to see you there.

The starting date for 21st Century is Monday, October 1st.  If you have been accepted into the program, you will get a letter in homeroom on Wednesday, September 26th.  If you don't get a letter, you are currently on the waiting list.
Students that signed up and handed in a permission slip for Mat Ball Intramural's please check the sign up sheet by the Auxiliary Gym to see if you are cleared to participate. Must be cleared with a physical to play. Mat Ball will begin on Tuesday October 2nd.

Thank you and our joke for the week is: How did the egg get up the mountain? It scrambled up! Have a lovely Week!

Winner of the Week - Michael Bullock
I chose my student, Michael Bullock to be spotlighted for an activity he does outside of school. Michael, his mother, and other church members spend at least one Sunday a month feeding homeless people in our community. Not only does Michael participate, he puts forth 100% kindness. What I mean is this. Instead of just handing out food and moving on to the next person, Michael treats each person respectfully and spends time talking with them. This is something to be proud of, especially for a 6th grader. When asked why he does this, Michael said, "I feel good helping the homeless because they deserve a better life." Now that's a true example of being a kind and respectful community member! Great job, Michael!!!
