Hallways - LMS's One Thing for 2018-19
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

The Lakeside Lightning Round (in just 2.5 years) has been viewed over 95,000 times! We are very close to breaking the 100,000 mark!

We are looking forward to getting the school year started this week but before we officially open our doors to the students on Thursday, we have some work to accomplish!

On Tuesday September 4 the entire Millville Public School District will be visiting LMS for ALICE training. We will be learning from experts in the local Millville Police force as well as others throughout south Jersey who are trained in ALICE.

What is ALICE?
Alert - Get the word out that there is a threat
Lockdown - Secure a place to stay as much as possible
Inform - Give constant information to Police and admin
Counter - This is last resort. Countering will be focused on the situation
Evacuate - Get all students and staff to a safe place.

On Wednesday, our LMS staff will be preparing for the students. We will review our goals and focus for the upcoming school year. As always, there are so many new things going on. We are very excited to get our classrooms ready!

We will be emphasizing proper hallway etiquette this year
We officially start the school year on Thursday. Our welcome back for the students is ambitious. For the first 3 days all students will experience the same lessons and focus based on the Significant 72 by fellow educator Greg Wolcott.

These lesson plans and activities are designed to ensure that all staff reviews the expectations and policies with all students. According to Wolcott (2018), “The first three days of school (72 hours) are a crucial period in the development of student to teacher & student to student relationships. Since relationship building is a teacher's number one responsibility, all instructional time during the opening 3 days should be spent on accomplishing the following:
  • Teachers learn about each student.
  • Students learn about their teacher.
  • Students learn about each other.
  • Students learn about school expectations.
This is going to be an awesome opening this year as we put all of our ideas about improving Lakeside into practice!!!

School doors open at 8:15 AM and the students are dismissed at 3:08 PM (6th graders) and 3:10 PM.
