We are entering the 6th week of Remote Learning this week. During this time we have been doing our best to ensure that all of our students at Lakeside Middle School are participating in Remote Learning. 

Our staff has developed a brief survey to better understand your Remote Learning experience. Please take a few minutes to provide us your honest opinion on communication, grading and student workload during this Remote Learning Experience. Also, as a reminder our Front Office is Open on Mondays from 9AM - 12PM with an administrator on duty. The food distribution is on Mondays from 10AM -1PM at our Latch Key Entrance.

Nurse's Corner 

Get regular exercise, good nutrition, and sleep. These provide your body and brain with the right fuel and time to recharge. 

Try to stay patient and positive. It can take time to feel better, and courage to face fears. But letting go of worry allows space for more happiness and fun.

Hand washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick. Everyone knows how to wash their hands right?  

A study conducted by USDA found consumers fail to correctly wash their hands 97 percent of the time, with the most common mistake being not washing hands long enough.

Click on this link by the CDC to see how and when to wash your hands to keep you & your family safe from germs. 

Winner of the Week - Ms. Walk 
Ms. Walk found out that one of our LMS families were experiencing difficulties. She took this family a considerable amount of groceries. In addition, she delivered little gift bags of candy to her students who have been conscientious about completing all their work. Ms. Walk has really gone above and beyond during this pandemic.

It's All About Respect at LMS! 

Welcome back from Spring Break. We hope that you had the opportunity to take a break from Remote Learning and connect with family and friends while Social Distancing.

We are beginning the next Phase of Remote Learning this week. This is our "3rd phase" of Remote Learning. In the first phase (March 17 - 22) was comprised of the packets distributed to students on March 16. The second phase (March 23 - April 9) was comprised of our "tinyurl" with access to packets as well. The third phase (April 20 - May 15) will be a combination of the "tinyurl" and Google Classroom with severely limited packets.

In order to keep everything organized with embedded links to resources and explanations, we are encouraging parents and students to access our Parent Guide to Remote Learning at LMS. This is also linked on the right hand side of the blog. This guide will explain grading and provide contact information for various questions.

Food Distribution 
Our building will now be open on Mondays for Food Distribution from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Food distribution will be on the Target Side of the building near the cafeteria where Latch Key is located.

Lakeside Front Office
Our Front Office will be open from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Mondays. We will have an administrator available to assist you if needed.

Morning Announcements (April 20 - May 15) 
We will be live at 8:25 AM Monday through Friday with announcements starting at 8:32 AM. Please join us on the Lakeside Official Facebook Page.

Daily Announcements 
Any 8th grade student who received a Frank Morrissey Scholarship Application from Mrs. Ciccio needs to scan them and send them to her through email before April 24th.  If you have any questions, please email her.

Students, don't forget to check your gmail and Google Classroom every week for updates.

Helping Parents Understand Infinite Campus 
As we get closer to distributing report cards for the 3rd Marking Period, there are many parents that have not setup their Infinite Campus Parent Portal accounts which will provide a copy of Progress Reports and Report Cards. It's All About Respect at LMS! 

We are going into our 4th week of Remote Learning this week. It is also the week before Spring Break. There will be no Remote Learning during the Spring Break (April 9 at 1:00 PM - April 19). We will resume Remote Learning on April 20 unless otherwise instructed. 

We wanted to thank all of the parents and students for their support and flexibility during this time. It has not been easy for anyone and we recognize that. 

Our goal at Lakeside Middle School is not to simply "keep the learning going." We are seeking ways to do things differently and authentically so that the students, teachers and parents can work collaboratively on interesting projects and learning opportunities.

We also feel that this time of Remote Learning is an excellent opportunity for our school community to participate (in whatever way we can) to assist our Millville community through food pantries, helping needy families, making masks for social distancing, and much more. This is a time for all of us to see the interconnected nature of this world and to show empathy for each other. We are all going through a lot and therefore we need to help each other out. We encourage everyone to continue to listen to the experts as they say we need to Social Distance and Physical Distance. This will be over soon, but we need to take it day by day.

Mark Your Calenders for our April 9, 2020 "Virtual Bubbles for Autism"
In light of April being Autism Awareness month, Ms, Interlante thought that it might be fun to have a district wide "virtual" Bubbles for Autism event.
How can you participate? Simple! Just take a picture of yourself blowing bubbles and post it to Facebook (or even Instagram!) Use the hashtag #mpsbubblesforautism

Lakeside Pays it Forward
The Lakeside staff and familes teamed up  to support the Child Family Center's monthly Food Pantry. We raised 800.00 dollars for food that was distributed to needy families on March 31, 2020. The next Food Pantry is scheduled for April 21. Stay tuned for how you can help out.

Ms. Harden, Child Study Team Social Worker, identified a family in need and raised 200.00 dollars to support their needs during this crucial time. Thank you to Ms. Harden for her coordination of this kind gesture.

Ms. DeVol's Science Experiments 
I offered my students an alternative science assignment for Week 3/4. The students had to create anything using a cereal box as the base and answer a few questions on Google Classroom. I had a few students complete the project already and share some pictures. I am impressed by their creativity.

Scanning in Documents 
Want to scan a document, but don't own a scanner? Did you know you can scan a document using the notes app on your iPhone?!  Simply open a new note, click the camera icon that pops up, then choose scan documents. It will have you hold the document a certain way and you will see that it’s scanning it, but the best part is it will save all of the pages as a PDF, which is perfect to email to your teachers if they want to see worksheets you’ve completed. Since we have had to go to remote learning, the Millville Cafeteria Staff have handed out over 10,000 meals for our families. They are to be commended for their hard work and determination during this unprecedented time.
