Lakeside Lightning Round - March 29 - April 2, 2021

Students participating in Reward Week

Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

Last week we had our first Amnesty and Reward Week. This program was something that we planned on for quite some time and it is simple... we are rewarding the students who have been exceling with various activities and down time while allowing struggling students some extra time to get their grades up. In addition, the teachers have used this time to individually conference with each of their students so that everyone knows where they stand before it is too late.

This week we will continue with the Amnesty and Reward activities. Be sure to check your teachers' Google Classroom for updates.

Take a minute with Dr. Cook

Dr. Cook has started a new segment for the Lightning Round. He will be taking a minute (no more than a minute) to provide updates on the school, staff, students and events going on. Take a minute to get with Dr. Cook

Lakeside Lightning Round - March 22 - 26, 2021

Mr. P showing his tech skills!

Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

Happy Spring everyone! We hope everyone is ready for the weather to change so we can spend more time outside. As we close in on the end of the 3rd marking period, we have developed a one time only program to reward students who have been doing their work this year and an opportunity for students who have missed assignments to make them up.

This week our Special Education students will be starting a four day week program. Any classroom enrollment that meets or exceeds the guidelines from our Pandemic Response Plan will be getting plexiglass dividers. A big thank you to secretaries, teachers, administration and security for helping to assemble to dividers!

We made a video and are providing our presentation slides so that you can follow along and access the links.

Lakeside Lightning Round - March 15 - 19, 2021

Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

The Lakeside Lightning Round turns 5 today! Can you believe it? Since it's inception in March of 2016, there have been over 235 posts highlighting the amazing staff, students and community of Millville. We have had over 170,000 visitors to the blog from over 30 different countries!

Dr. Cook, who started the blog and publishes it weekly, had this to say about the Lighting Round turning 5, "When I started to Lakeside one of the main themes from the staff was that we were not highlighting the positive contributions of our school. As the Lightning Round has grown, our Social Media presence through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter has grown exponentially. Publishing the weekly blog is something I enjoy doing each Sunday. It is the easiest thing for me to do as a Principal because there is always something amazing going on!"

We have remained dedicated to the original purpose of the Lightning Round which is to highlight our staff and students. We are always looking for stories, pictures, videos and even accomplishments outside of the school. As a staff, we are very grateful for the Millville community's support of our school and the blog! If you have an idea or material you would like to submit, please email Dr. Cook (spike.cook@millville.org).

Lakeside Lightning Round - March 8 - 12, 2021

 Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

This week we celebrate the 5 year anniversary of Dr. Cook as Principal at Lakeside Middle School. Congratulations for 5 years. In reflection on his time at Lakeside Middle School, Dr. Cook said this, "We have an amazing staff that has been faced with so many challenges over the past few years. They have always faced these challenges with professionalism and with a focus on what is best for our students. Our students continue to amaze me. They have displayed such flexibility with the pandemic and really enjoy being Lakeside Lighting. Our parents and guardians have been so supportive of the changes over the past few years. They have been partners with us as we work to educate our kids. Our community has been instrumental in providing mentors, grant money and support for us to continually improve. I am proud to work in Millville Public Schools and to serve the community of Millville. I am so grateful to celebrate 5 years as Principal and I look forward to many more!"

Women's History Month Fact Of the Week
Women often wrote under pen names in times when it was not seen as appropriate for them to contribute to literature. Even some female authors who are highly acclaimed today had to resort to fake names like Jane Austen, the Bronte Sisters, Mary Ann Evans (perhaps better known by her pen name George Eliot), and Louisa May Alcott.

Our joke for the week is... Why did the man get rid of his vacuum cleaner? Because it was just gathering dust
