August 27 - 31, 2018

Thank you to our Custodian Crew for transforming LMS!
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We had a very successful Boot Camp last week. Throughout the 2 days and 4 sessions there were 105 students and about 50 parents in total. Students learned how to build their binders, toured the school and got a chance to meet some of our amazing staff. Parents also had a tour of Lakeside and were able to ask Dr. Cook about the school. Thank you to Mr. Godfrey for organizing our 3rd annual Boot Camp!

This week we have the 6th grade Orientation on Tuesday, August 28 at 6:00 PM. Parents and students are encouraged to attend to learn about the important updates as well as the policies, procedures and expectations of our school.

A big thank you goes out to all who attended our calendar planning and brainstorming session on Wednesday. Staff who attended were able to provide ideas for the upcoming school year as we continue to work collaboratively to make Lakeside the best!

The Gifted and Talented Camp had a Hot Air Balloon at LMS
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect At LMS!

We hope that you are enjoying your Summer! Over the course of the Summer, we have been very busy here at LMS. We hosted several Summer Camps throughout June, July and August with over 600 students! In addition, we started our first Summer School with 28 students completing the requirements to move onto their next grade.

Our custodians have been extremely busy balancing all of the Summer Camps and cleaning the entire school.  We really appreciate our custodians and the hard work they do to ensure our school is prepared for the new school year.

The 3rd Annual 6th Grade Boot Camp will be held on August 20 and 21. We have had over 90 students register for this informative session. There are still spots available  on August 21. Please click this link to register.

We will be hosting our annual 6th Grade Parent Orientation on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 @ 6:00 PM in the Lakeside Auditorium. This will be a great opportunity for parents to learn more about what to expect at LMS in the upcoming school year.

Wrap up from 2017-18 School Year

Mrs. Sharpless's class earns 300
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We hope that everyone has been enjoying your summer. It is hard to believe that the school year ended just a few weeks ago. We have been busy at LMS wrapping up the 2017-18 school year and preparing for the 2018-19 school year. In addition, we have been planning for our first Summer School in a long time at LMS. Students who failed two classes or missed over 25 days will be engaged in a Summer School focused on academics, service learning, and motivation. The program starts on July 9 and goes until August 9.

In many ways we had another successful school year at Lakeside. We improved in a number of areas including Math and Language Arts assessments, recurring discipline referrals and subject area benchmarks. We offered more clubs and activities for the students to become engaged with. We offered new electives and more advanced classes! Lastly, we offered a new "Advisory" period which allowed students to work on character education as well as AVID strategies to improve their learning. We accomplished this together with help from the community, parents, staff and students!

We are looking forward to 2018-19 school year. As you can imagine, we are planning to continue to improve the school in all areas. Stay tuned for future LMS Lightning Round posts where will share all of the planned improvements!

Mrs. Sharpless's Class bits the 300 Club
"On Wednesday we had a Chic-fil-a party to celebrate my students who made it into our 300 club.  These students answered 300 questions or more in one school week in addition to the work they did in math class and on their homework. That means they answered an additional 43 math questions per day!  As you can tell, this is a great accomplishment for these 7 students beings they are one of only 8% of all of my students who were able to complete this feat." by Mrs. Sharpless

Mrs. Schwailik and Mrs. Birnstiel's achieved another milestone!
"Another goal met and surpassed!!!  The "200 Book Challenge"!!! Mrs. Schwailik and Mrs. Birnstiel's 6th grade Inclusion Language Arts class is celebrating our "200 Book Challenge". As a class we have read 260 books and passed the corresponding AR tests." by Mrs. Schwailik
