Lakeside Lightning,

Lakeside is an opportunity, not an obligation

Take Your Child to Work Day
Maybe we will get back to Spring since we are starting May this week. These unseasonably cold and wet days have been trying!

Last week was very exciting at our school. On Monday, the Board of Education approved Mr. Hudson as our new 8th grade Vice Principal. Mr. Hudson is excited about joining the Lakeside family. He has been over to the school throughout the week to begin learning about his new opportunity. His official start date is May 9.

The annual AVID fundraising trip took place on Tuesday at the Stratosphere Trampoline Park. There were lots of students and staff that attended the event. Thanks to Mrs. Hallenbeck for organizing the event!

On Wednesday, we had our monthly staff meeting. Dr. Cook talked about his first 31 days of being Principal at Lakeside. He shared some of the good news going on at Lakeside. One of the biggest accomplishments is that the student discipline was lower in April than it was in March. We are always ready to celebrate accomplishments.

Some of the 6th Grade Students of the Month
Also on Wednesday, Dr. Cook hosted over 50 students for "Lunch with the Principal." The staff identified students who exemplify what Lakeside stands for. In addition to earning a certificate, students got the chance to hear the kind words from the staff. Dr. Cook asked them to identify 3 areas that are going well at Lakeside and 3 areas we need to improve. He will share this with the staff.

On Thursday, some of our staff brought their children to work. This is such a awesome activity and allows our students to connect with the staff on a different level. Family is universal and important to everyone. Thank you to everyone who participated!

The 6th grade Students of the Month were recognized for their efforts on Friday by Mr. Godfrey. He purchased pizza and drinks for the outstanding students. Some of the teachers were able to stop by and congratulate the students. Also on Friday, Mrs. Sharpless rewarded her students who had not missed a homework assignment for the entire marking period!

Mrs. Schwailik's Earth Day Activities
This is always a special time of year when the beauty of life is evident!

When you look at the calendar of events, you may notice that we are starting 8th grade PARCC a day late. This is because the PARCC website was down this week. The website outage impacted almost all New Jersey School Districts.

This week we are looking forward to Take Your Child to Work Day. Some of our staff will be bringing their children to Lakeside. Student who participate in this event must get a note from their parent's place of work.
