Lightning Round goes over 100,000 visitors!
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

Congratulations to the Lakeside Lightning Round for passing the 100,000 visitor mark in less than 2 and half years! Thank you for your ongoing support!!!!

Can you believe that we are already through the first month of school for the 2018-19 school year? Time really is flying as we go throughout the learning process at Lakeside Middle School. Many students have completed their introductory assessments in their core classes so that teachers can understand their academic levels. These assessments are used in our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that the teachers engage a few times a week. In fact, the teachers will be getting additional training this week (while the students are off) on Wednesday, October 5, 2018.

Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who attended the Back to School Night. We tried to approach the BTSN differently this year in order to allow parents to attend multiple grade levels and classes that are offered A/B days. We would really appreciate your feedback so that is why developed a Google Form to hear what you thought. Please take a few minutes to share your opinions on the Back to School Night 2018. Click here for the survey.

Winner of the Week - Michael Bullock
I chose my student, Michael Bullock to be spotlighted for an activity he does outside of school. Michael, his mother, and other church members spend at least one Sunday a month feeding homeless people in our community. Not only does Michael participate, he puts forth 100% kindness. What I mean is this. Instead of just handing out food and moving on to the next person, Michael treats each person respectfully and spends time talking with them. This is something to be proud of, especially for a 6th grader. When asked why he does this, Michael said, "I feel good helping the homeless because they deserve a better life." Now that's a true example of being a kind and respectful community member! Great job, Michael!!!

We had another great week at LMS! Our staff and students completed the First Three Days on Monday! We believe that the beginning to our school year allowed a very important transition to take place. As a school we have covered the expectations and more importantly, all staff and students were able to make connections with each other.

Thank you for your continued support of the LMS Lightning Round Blog! We are so close to breaking the 100,000 visitors plateau. As of 9/13/18 we are at 98,000!

It's All About Respect At LMS!
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect At LMS!

We had a very exciting back to school this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Lakeside Staff participated in district and school based professional development. The district is focusing on improving security throughout all of the schools. We learned about the ALICE way of securing our school in the event of an intruder.

Our theme at LMS is "It's All About Respect." The staff professional development sessions at Lakeside focused on Respect. We reviewed the "First 3 Days" Power Point and learned from one of the District Professional Development Specialists Margaret Keefer. Mrs. Keefer did such a great job that the staff have already requested to have her come back to LMS. The staff also had a lot of time to prepare their classrooms for the opening of school.

The first two days of school went very well. Every staff member covered an extensive Power Point presentation that covered get to know you activities, as well as all of the policies and procedures. Students who attended LMS before have noticed how different the opening has been this year. According to one 8th grade student, she said, "I can see how all of the staff is on the same page. As students we know that the theme is all about respect. Everyone is taking about it."

This week we will finish the Power Point on Monday. As the week progresses, students will begin to learn about their specific subjects and they will begin taking notes, having homework and taking tests!
