Lakeside Lightning, It's All About Respect at LMS!
Happy New Year from the staff at Lakeside Middle School. We hope that you enjoyed the Winter Break. It was very much needed for the staff and the students.
Prior to the Winter Break we had a bunch of very amazing activities at Lakeside. On Monday, December 17, 2018 our AVID team hosted the Holistic Life Foundation. The Holistic Life Foundation is a Baltimore-based 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization committed to nurturing the wellness of children and adults in underserved communities. Through a comprehensive approach which helps children develop their inner lives through yoga, mindfulness, and self-care HLF demonstrates deep commitment to learning, community, and stewardship of the environment. HLF is also committed to developing high-quality evidence based programs and curriculum to improve community well-being.
Mrs. Pettit won the Ugly Sweater Contest
On Wednesday, our staff took some time to work collaborative as well as have a relaxed staff meeting. This effort was coordinated by our teachers and it was a huge success! On Thursday, December 20, 2018 Lakeside Middle School hosted the second annual STEM Day. The purpose of the STEM Day is to expose students to the various programs offered at Millville High School. Big thanks to Mr. Barber for coordinating the event! Be sure to check out the SNJ article and video (click here). On Friday, December 21, 2018 our PBSIS committee raised 334 dollars for Pajama Day. Since it was 1 dollar to participate we had about 1/3 of our students wear their pajamas! They also hosted the Bagels and Board Games as a reward to those students who continue to earn Zaps for being safe, respectful, responsible and good learners. Lakeside In The News - 6th Grade students send Get Well Cards to Veteran The 6th grade Social Studies Department hosts the annual Veterans Day Assembly. They heard that one of the honorees, Dotty Cullen, broke her leg so they had the students make Get Well Cards for her. Here is the article that was featured in the Daily Journal (click here). Our Kindness Initiative is Lightning Up our School!
Lakeside Lightning,
It's All About Respect at LMS!
We had a lot of exciting things that happened this week and some challenging things as well. Our school was re-validated as a National Demonstration School on Wednesday. This was the result of a lot of hard work and determination by our students and staff. This was our 3rd re-validation and we are a Demo school until 2022! The panel who coordinated the re-validation were impressed with our academic climate and culture, hallways, and higher order thinking initiative.
Unfortunaltey, we have had some challenges recently at LMS. We have students who choose not to resolve conflicts peacefully. When students choose to engage in conflict they are dealt with swiftly according to the discipline code. We do not tolerate this behavior because there are so many resources that students can utlize when their is a conflict. We have Guidance Counselors, Teachers, Support Staff, Student Peer Mediators and Administrators who are here to help.
Lakeside Middle School get re-validated as National Demonstration School
Check out our AVID students sharing their excitement

Winter is in full swing! We have had our first snow and fortunately we didn't have to miss any school or events! This past week the students in Chorus and Band did an amazing job with their performances. It is clear that they have practiced hard and worked closely with their teachers to get to the next level. With such a great Winter Concert we can only imagine what is in store for us in the Spring.
This upcoming week is very special. Our AVID team has been working diligently to prepare for the re-validation for our National Demonstration School Status! Well, this Wednesday, we will find out if our hard work paid off. Will we get the new banner? Will we get re-validated? We shall see on Wednesday afternoon! Stay tuned!
We want to say a big THANK YOU to all of the students who continue to embody our 4 simple rules of being safe, responsible, respectful and good learners. It really goes a long way and by being respectful to your teachers and other students you set yourself apart. We are grateful for those students who make it a pleasure to come to school everyday!
