Lakeside Lightning,

The World is Yours: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities

Mr. Hand. Mr. Williams and Mr. Garrison at NJPSA
We had a very wonderful winter week at Lakeside! Our Winter Concerts were very well attended (thank you parents and families) and musically impressive!  Be sure to scroll down to the end of this post to see who are the winners of the week ;)

In addition to the Winter Concerts, we had a lot of exciting activities occurring in the classrooms. Mrs. Mole, 8th grade teacher, did a trust activity with her students titled, "Walking in the name of trust." The 8th grade students reported that they learned more about each other and that you can have fun while still learning. Great job Mrs. Mole. In 6th grade Mrs. Gehringer brought in a humongous teddy bear for her students. She is rewarding students for completing assignments.  Thanks for going the extra mile Mrs. Gehringer!

This week Dr. Cook with have his SAMs time coach following him to track his time. When asked about the SAMs time tracker, Dr. Cook, Principal, had this to say, "I have learned so much about time management through this experience. At first, it is a little odd to have someone following me around but I get used to it. I think the students and staff think it is weird. They don't really want to talk to me when I getting observed. Overall, though, this process has helped me stay focused on instruction and I am grateful for the opportunity to participate." So, if you see someone trailing Dr. Cook this week, just treat him the way you normally would. The SAM time coach is just collecting data on his time.

Student Spotlight - Mya Reid
Dr. Cook sat down with poet (and LMS student) Mya Reid to talk about her book of poetry Finding the Young. We are anticipating that the Daily Journal will be covering this story. Until then, check out Dr. Cook's blog post about Finding the Young.

Art Club Spotlight
Students learned how to design their own tee shirts and voted on a design. Yesterday in Art Club, they learned about the screen printing process by having their design burned onto a screen. Each student inked the screen, pulled the design, and printed their own shirt.
