Lakeside Lightning Round May 31 - June 4, 2021

 Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

We want to start out by thanking those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country on this Memorial Day Holiday. At Lakeside Middle School, we believe that Memorial Day is a day to pause and reflect on those who served our country and died while serving in the military. Prior to COVID we would do an assembly and events to mark this time. It is our intention to continue that next year.

Can you believe that it is June already? We can't either. At Lakeside Middle, we will continue with our academics as well as our Social and Emotional initiatives in the month of June. Unlike the past years we will not be doing a "Finals Week" but rather all subjects will have their own academic conclusion to the year. Here are a few important dates for June and the academic calendar can be found here:

  • June 2, 2021 - This is an in-person day due to the Memorial Day Holiday
  • June 8, 2021 - 8th Grade Barbeque
  • June 11, 2021 - 8th Grade Ice Cream Social
  • June 14, 2021 - 8th Grade Step Up Ceremony
  • June 15, 2021 - Last Day of school for 2020-21 School Year (1:05 PM Dismissal)

Lakeside Lightning Round May 24 - 28, 2021

Good luck to our 8th graders in High School

Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

We had without a doubt the best week this week since we went to 4 days for in-person Hybrid. Parents followed up with their students who were not adhering to the mask protocols and we noticed a huge difference. Hallways, cafeteria, arrival and dismissal went better as well. Thank you to the students for stepping up and for the staff and parents for their support! We are poised to end the year on a very positive note.

Coming to a lawn near you

Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

8th Grade End of the Year Activities and Points

On Monday, May 17, 2021, we will begin our End of the Year Activities Point System for our 8th-graders. Each of our students will begin with 50 LMS Points. Eligible students must have a minimum of 35 points on Friday, June 4, 2021, to participate in any of the End of the Year activities during the week of  June 7, 2021-June 11, 2021. Here is an overview of the End of Year Activities Point System.

Mask Infractions

We have been having issues with students wearing their masks properly. Those students who have been habitually and continually defying the mask protocols will be written up on a Major Discipline Referral and parents will be contacted. At this point, students will receive one official warning with an administrator calling home. Any successive mask infractions will result in those students being placed in Virtual.

Lakeside Lightning Round May 10 - 14, 2021

8th grade information

Lakeside Lightning,

The School of Tomorrow, Today!

We had such a special week last week as we celebrated our staff. Each day we were able to recognize staff with treats, cards and even some down time. We are so grateful for the contribution of our staff to Lakeside Middle School. We are very grateful for our PTA President Jen Tostevin. The PTA made individual gift bags for each staff member with personalized notes.

We also had the pleasure of working with students and parents on our annual focus groups. The student session was hosted by Dr. Cook and Ms. Gaunt. During the session, over 80 students in small groups were able to share their frustrations along with their positives concerning Lakeside. One of the most important themes to arise in the student focus groups was the positive impact our staff has on the students! Not to be outdone, the parent sessions were equally informative and enlightening. Dr. Cook, along with Mrs. Sharpless, hosted the parent sessions through Zoom, and askes similar questions. Parents raved about the positive impact our staff has on our learning environment.

Dr. Cook, Principal of Lakeside Middle School, had this to say about the focus groups, "I am always impressed with the open and honest discussions that take place in our annual focus groups with the parents and students. We get such authentic feedback and many of the ideas end up being areas we work on through our School Improvement Plan."

The School Improvement Team will begin meeting this week and will develop a process of sharing the information with school community.
