Grow through what you go through
We hope that you had a restful Thanksgiving Break. This is a busy time of year and one that can be challenging balancing all of the responsibilities of the holidays. As we return to school, our staff would like to get back to more normal learning conditions. We will be implementing several initiatives on Monday, November 29, 2021 and we are looking for support from our Lakeside community.
Beginning November 29, 2021, we will be making some updates to the procedures at Lakeside Middle School. Below is a list of important changes and we are anticipating your support in getting the students back into more “normal” routines:
Bookbags, Jackets and Lockers
All students will be required to place their bookbags, jackets and cell phones in their lockers. This will remain in effect for the rest of the school year.
Students will be permitted to take their bookbags and jackets to their last period class in order streamline dismissal.
6th grade students will be dismissed from their last period class at 3:04 PM, 7th Grade at 3:07 PM and 8th Grade at 3:10 PM. This staggered dismissal is implemented to ensure the safety and security of all students as they exit the building.
What is allowed?
Zip up Binder Bag
Purses
Water Bottles
Water Bottles - Water Bottles will be permitted until we bring back water fountains. We are currently working with the district and local Department of Health to bring back the use of water fountains. Please stay tuned.
Cell Phones
Arrival - Cell phones, headphones, earbuds etc. off and away before entering the school.
During the day - We are asking students to have their cell phones in the lockers for security reasons and to lessen distractions.
Classroom
If a teacher sees a cell phone they will update the communications log and do the following:
1st offense - Remind the students of the policy and allow them to put it in the locker. Students will be provided with a pass from the teacher.
2nd offense - Take the phone and put it in a holding place on your desk for the period. Follow up with another conversation about the Cell Phone Policy.
3rd offense - Phone goes to admin for the day - Will be held in the Vice Principal’s Office. Call security to escort the phone.
4th offense and above - VP will process a discipline referral in Infinite Campus and the phone must be picked by a parent or guardian.
Dismissal - Cell phones are permitted on the way out of the building after their grade level bell rings.
Hallways
If a staff member sees a student with a Cell Phone out in the hallway, they are to do the following:
First Offense - Remind the student about the Cell Phone Policy.
Second Offense - Identify the student and contact security or administration.
Congratulations to the Wellness Month Winners
Get Ready for the Bookfair

Fundraisers
Lakeside AVID will be sponsoring a Pajama Day Fundraiser for CHOP on December 3. All students are invited to make a donation to benefit CHOP during homeroom on November 29-December 2. Students who donate will be given a sticker to wear with their pajamas on Friday, December 3. Donations can be made at the following locations: 6th grade with Ms. Votta in Y106, 7th grade with Mrs. Gandy in B130, and 8th grade with Ms. DiMattia in M107. You can also make a donation during your lunch period in the cafeteria.
'Tis the season for giving and Lakeside wants to help! Starting Monday, November 29th we will be having a Holiday Food Drive and Holiday Toy Drive. For the food drive we are accepting non-perishable canned items such as soups, peanut butter, veggies, mac and cheese, cereal, etc. For the toy drive we are accepting brand new unwrapped toys appropriate for girls or boys ages 5-11. As an extra incentive you can earn points...for some of you that means points back while for others it means extra points so that you can become a member of the 145+ Club who will be rewarded at the end of the year. Each toy is worth 5 points and each food item is worth 2 points. You can earn up to 20 points with no more than 10 for toys and 10 for food. The homeroom for each grade level who brings in the most food and toys combined will earn a pizza party!!
