April 9 - 13, 2018

Lakeside Lightning,

JDRF Walk was a success!
The World Is Yours: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities

We hope that everyone enjoyed their Spring Break! Although the weather wasn't very "spring like" it was certainly much needed for the staff and the students. We hope that everyone recharged their batteries!

Prior to the Spring Break, the staff continued their work on the School Improvement Plan for the 18-19 School Year. This year we are using the concept of "The ONE THING" from the book by Gary Keller. In short, the concept is to focus all of our efforts into solving one problem. Prior to the meeting, we had narrowed down the possibilities to about 15. During the staff meeting, the staff were given 3 "Lakeside Dollars" to invest in our "one thing." The staff overwhelmingly invested in improving our hallways. Throughout the remainder of this school year and all next school year we will devise and implement a strategy to improve our hallways.

Local Speaker Visits LMS
Rich White, Personal/Online Trainer, Bootcamp Instructor spoke to about 30 of our students relaying a message about hard work, choosing the right friends and believing in yourself as the foundations to success and achieving goals in life.  He ended the presentation with a push-up challenge that required focus and determination.  The two winners were Kishan Patel and Ketoya McClain!

Lakeside Lightning Cancer Strikers!
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event will be held on Saturday, May 19th from 12:00 noon to 12:00 am on the fields behind the parking lot.  We would like to form the first ever Lakeside Middle School team for the event!  So many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer, even some of our own staff members who have had cancer, and this is a great way to pay tribute to their fight and remember those we have lost.

The event is held from 12 noon to 12 am and includes opening ceremonies, a luminaria ceremony, a fight back ceremony, and closing ceremonies.  At least one person from each team should be walking on the track throughout the event, so you are not obligated to walk the entire time.  Each team can sell crafts, food, etc that can help to raise money for ACS if they choose.

Our team name is: Lakeside Lightning Cancer Strikers

Registration is free, and you are encouraged to fundraise to donate to the ACS.  If you raise $100, you will receive an event t-shirt.

If you are interested in joining our team, you can register on the website:  www.relayforlife.org/CumberlandNJ.  Search for our team and sign up to begin collecting donations.  All funds raised will stay local to our area.

The ACS Relay for Life theme this year is Superheroes!  There will be hourly events designed around this theme, and we are encouraged to create shirts, decorations, etc based on this theme.  We will need a tent or two to use for the event.  If anyone has one of these, please consider donating it for us to use.

Mrs. Hallenbeck volunteered to be the Team Captain, and Mrs. Ciccio will be our Co-Captain.  Please contact either Mrs. Hallenbeck or Mrs. Ciccio for any questions!

Please consider joining us to “Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back” for our Lakeside family!  We look forward to our first successful year as a Lakeside team!
