April 30 - May 4, 2018

Who has the lighting power?
Lakeside Lightning,

The World is Yours: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities

We are hoping that the April showers (and cold) will bring May flowers! There is another exciting week planned at Lakeside Middle School! We will be starting our PARCC this week for the 6th graders. Over the past few years, LMS has improved our PARCC growth in many areas such as by demographics and special education. We hope to continue that trend this year!

Last week we successfully did a lock down during a lunch period. We do not normally do this but we know that we need to practice drills at all different times. The students and staff in the cafeteria did a great job (as the rest of the school did as well). We even had a few parents who happened to be int he building and were able to experience a lock down drill. They were very impressed with the students! Thank you to everyone for their participation.

We had a very successful Take Your Child To Work Day on Thursday. We hosted 23 kids from the LMS staff. They were able to learn about our announcements, cameras, STEM, team building and even made pancakes! Thanks to everyone for their participation!

Keep your eyes on the chicks - We may have chickens this week. Be sure to stay tuned to our live feed! Check out our live webcam (click here) to see eggs hatch in Ms. Carroll's classroom!

Another Outstanding Performance by Lakeside Middle School
Kerry Shea, Cali Sloan, Spencer Hickman-Hakola, and Charlene Walker performed in the All South Jersey Elementary Honors Band today! Ms. Zeiters conducted
Probability in Mrs. Lopergolo's room
On Friday, Mrs. Lopergolo's students put probability into action. They made predictions about how objects were going to land. Students used knowledge of area and volume of liquids to toss marshmallows and water bottles.

Daily Announcements
The Lakeside Girls Track & Field Team defeated Bridgeton yesterday by a score of 66 to 16. Lakeside received outstanding performances from Bryanna Craig, Autumn Craig, Tanasia Stevenson, Tanyha Smith,  and Reese Sheppard. Be prepared for our home track meet on Monday against Hammonton.

Attention all choir members attending the Hershey Park trip:  If you need to turn in any fundraiser or trip money please give it to Miss Zeiters, she can be found in the band room.

Attention 8th grade students: is College in your future?  Do you try your best in all of your classes and accept challenges?  Would you like to join a positive peer group that is academically motivated?  If you answered yes, then AVID is for you!  We are currently taking applications for AVID 9 at Memorial.  You can pick up an application from the main office, the 8th grade office, or B107.  All applications must be returned to Mrs. Hallenbeck in the main office by no later than May 4th.

It’s NOT too late to get your tickets for Lakeside Family Friendly Night at the Philadelphia Soul Game (Soul vs. Atlanta) on SATURDAY, May 19th. Bus leaves Lakeside at 4 and returns at 10:30. Tickets are $25 cash (only-no checks accepted) per person.  Since it is a Saturday, there will be no food provided prior to the game!!   Permission slips are available in the main office. Permission slips can be returned to Mrs. Benfer in the main office.

Thank you and our joke for the week is: Where did the seaweed go to find a job? The Kelp Wanted Section. Have a fantastic Week!

Winner of the Week - Mr. Hand definitely takes his history job seriously at LMS. He has been a great addition to the LMS family. This week he dressed up and was able to get in front of the green screen to pose for Zeus-like scenes. Thanks Mr. Hand!
