Lakeside Lightning,
Grow through what you go through
Slowly but surely we are getting back to the normalcy of school. As we have stated earlier, not only have Lakeside students struggled with transitioning back to school, but all other schools are too. Each week we continually see improvements and we know that this transition has been difficult because the last two years have been challenging.
This week, we are hosting our first Parent/Guardian School Improvement Plan meeting on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 6:00 PM in person at the Lakeside DMC (please enter front entrance). The purpose of this meeting is to review our school goals and discuss areas of concerns in the school.
We are looking forward to hosting another Free Produce Distribution on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

Pause, Notice and Choose
The Whole Health Institute has provided LMS with Pause, Notice, Choose reminder cards for staff and students. These small cards fit easily in a pocket or wallet and are a great reminder to take time to Pause: Take a deep breath, Notice: What do you think, feel, and sense right now?, and Choose: What will you do next.
In a time when we are all very overwhelmed, these are three simple words that describe a process that can truly change the way we approach moments in our daily lives. Please consider practicing Pause, Notice, Choose. Using this common language in our school could also be beneficial for consistency and common expectations across classrooms and content areas.
Former Lakeside AVID Visits Virtually
Former Lakeside AVID student, DaeTrell Lindsey, was a virtual guest speaker for the 8th grade AVID class. DaeTrell is a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army Reserves and union underwater welder.
Judge Allende Visits LMS
Judge Veronica Allende was sworn in as a Superior Court Judge on July 6, 2021 and is currently assigned to the Hudson County Superior Court, Civil Division. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Allende served as the Director of the Division of Criminal Justice with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office for over three and a half years.
She was the first Hispanic and third woman in the Division’s history to hold that position. She returned to the Division as Director after a year and a half at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, where she served as an Assistant United States Attorney, investigating and prosecuting individuals for various federal crimes, including bank robbery, child exploitation, firearms offenses, airport crimes, wire and Social Security fraud, and narcotics distribution.
