8th grade GT students at Quiz Bowl
Lakeside Lightning,

It's All About Respect at LMS!

We hope everyone enjoyed the four day weekend. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Respect Week. Each day the message was well received and the school spirit was evident! Our 8th grade GT participated in the 12 annual Quiz Bowl hosted at St. Augustine Prep. Our students competed with dozens of other schools and represented LMS in a very positive manner!

On Friday, while the students were off, the staff participated in a professional development day titled, "Falling in Love with Learning." Staff throughout the district descended upon Lakeside to take part in a variety of workshops designed at increasing student achievement, engagement and resources.

Dr. Cook hosted the first School Improvement Meeting of the 2019-20 school year for families and community members on Monday, October 7, 2019. We had 10 families in attendance. Dr. Cook shared the overview of the school. Those in attendance analyzed the data and then shared areas for improvement and areas that are going well. For those who were not able to make it, you can access the presentation below. Our next meeting will be in November and we will send out a Global Connect Message. We hope to see you then!

Parents at the School Improvement Meeting
Do you have smooth moves that you just NEED to show off? Come to our first 6th grade fall dance from 3:30 – 5:00 on Friday, October 18th. Meet us in the cafeteria directly after school to listen to DJ Jazzy Salvati beats, plus special Guest DJ "THE" Hand. To purchase tickets, bring $5 and your signed permission slips to Ms. Carroll’s room in Y124 during homeroom no later than Wednesday 10/16. No tickets will be sold at the door or after Wednesday 10/16.

Who is going to win $100? How about $50? Just sell 10 items or more in our fall fundraiser and you will get to participate in the Dash for Cash this winter.  The Dash for Cash features over $350 in gift cards and cash prizes. Our fundraiser runs until OCTOBER 18TH, so let’s see who our biggest seller will be this year!

Today we wrap up our “Week of Respect.” Think about
your future. While it may seem far away, any adult will tell you that it will be here
sooner than you think. It’s never too early to dream, to set goals, and to start
working towards them. It’s never too late to change. What are your goals? What
are you doing today to get there? Take a moment to practice our Bully free pledge:
Today and for the rest of the school year, words like COMMITMENT,
RESPECT, KINDNESS, and COMPASSION will be part of my promise to take a
stand against bullying. I will use these words in the thoughts and actions I do
today and for the rest of the school year. I will take responsibility in helping
others. I can make a difference. We hope the message of caring and being kind to one another is
remembered throughout the year. Thank you for showing your school pride.

Attention 7th grade students we are having a T-shirt design contest. Make sure to use your school spirit and pride to design a shirt. The contest will run from Monday September 30 through Friday October 18th. We will then take the top designs and vote for our favorite design that will become our 7th grade shirt for the year. Following the contest we will be selling the shirts and all proceeds will go towards our end of the year activity.  Any questions see Ms. Shelton in B133

Are you a writer? Bring your stories or poems to Mrs. Haughey in Y100 to be published in the NEW LMS literary magazine Lakeside Lightning Literary. We will also be accepting drawings and photos. We can hardly wait to see your work!

Thank you and our joke of the week is:  What kind of shoes does a ghost wear in the fall? Booooooooots.  Have a thrilling Week!
